December 2011 newsletter
Welcome to the December issue of the National Rail Trends (NRT) Portal newsletter. Since our last newsletter, we have added and updated a number of reports and datasets, covering age of rolling stock, complaints, freight moved, private investment in railways, passenger journeys, passenger kilometres, passenger revenues, punctuality for passenger (public performance measure) and freight (freight performance measure) operators. NRT Portal user group
We have now set up the NRT Portal user group that will meet regularly to discuss how we can improve the functionality of the NRT Portal. Members of the team that manage the NRT Portal will attend each of the user group meetings.
The inaugural user group meeting takes place at the Department for Transport, Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR, at 4-5.30pm on 23 January 2012. If you have volunteered for the user group, or would like to volunteer, please confirm your attendance at this meeting by sending us an email. This must be done before the meeting for security reasons. If you have not volunteered and wish to, please email us at: email@example.com and someone from the team will contact you.
Some of the findings from the Portal survey have now been implemented; we have now added improved word search, and made the notes and methodology more detailed.
We have increased the automatic logout period from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. The increased logout period has been based on the recommendation from our IT security advisers. However, we will continue to review this in light of user feedback and security guidance.

We are always on the lookout for feedback about what we can do better and areas we are doing well, and would appreciate your comments. While the findings from the survey we conducted In September have been invaluable please don’t wait until the next survey in September 2012 to provide feedback to us about the NRT Portal.
