Notes:
Data can be subject to methodological changes indicated by (b).

In 2006-07, the methodology was improved by adding additional estimates for rail travel using TfL sold travelcards.
1. Regional rail journey numbers are calculated based on the origin and destination named on the ticket. This differs from figures published as part of the Passenger Rail Usage statistical release (http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/statistical-releases), which is calculated based on the number of legs taken to complete a journey.
2. The sub-regions used in all the 11 regional tables have been updated to the 2015 NUTS2 boundary definitions as was previously done in the 2015-16 estimates of station usage dataset. For further information on the local authority boundaries as they existed prior to the 2009 reorganisation, please refer to the ONS Website.
3. Journeys by historic sub-regions tables can be found: http://dataportal.orr.gov.uk/browsereports/15
More details on methodology can be found in the quality report relating to this dataset: http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/statistical-releases

This dataset is used in the Regional Rail Usage statistical release. To view or download the statistical release: http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/statistical-releases
Revisions
For the latest information on data revisions, please see the revisions log: http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/code-of-practice/revisions-log
Other datasets:
- ORR publishes data on passenger rail usage by sector, ticket type and by Train Operating Company though these are calculated on a different basis to regional rail usage. If a passenger has to change trains, this would be classed as two journeys in passenger rail usage but only one journey in regional rail usage. The Passenger Rail Usage statistical release is available here: http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/statistical-releases and associated data tables are available
- Department for Transport publishes regional transport statistics within their National Travel Survey, which is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-travel-survey-statistics. DfT also publishes rail usage data on light rail and tramways within Transport Statistics Great Britain, available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/transport-statistics-great-britain
- Transport Scotland publish data on rail usage in their annual Scottish Transport Statistics. The latest publication is available here: https://www.transport.gov.scot/publications/
- The Welsh Government publish regional rail usage data within their compendium of rail transport statistics. The latest publication is available here: http://gov.wales/statistics-and-research/?topic=Transport&lang=en
