November 2011 newsletter

Dear subscriber

In response to feedback from the National Rail Trends (NRT) Portal user survey we have changed the format of the newsletter. We emailed a brief newsletter to registered users and placed this extended version on our NRT Portal website. We welcome your feedback on the new format and are keen to understand how the newsletter can further be improved.

NRT Portal user survey

We ran an online user survey between 14 and 30 September 2011. We are pleased to hear that 69% of NRT Portal users would recommend the site to a friend or colleague, but disappointed that only 46% rate it’s user-friendliness as excellent or good. A full report on the survey findings can be found on our website. The report provides a detailed breakdown of the results, as well as our response to the findings and an action plan for addressing the key findings.

NRT Portal user group

We want to get your views on how we can improve the user-friendliness of the NRT Portal, and make the report wizard in particular more intuitive. We are looking for volunteers to join a user group. The user group will have the opportunity to meet the team who manage the NRT Portal, and brainstorm potential improvements with other NRT Portal users. We will be holding the first user group workshop at 12:30-14:30 on 14 December 2011 (lunch will be provided). If you would like to attend please contact the NRT Portal team by 7 December 2011. If you are unable to attend, but would like to discuss your ideas with a member of the NRT Portal team, please email us (with your contact details) and someone will call you within one working day.

Immediate improvements

In response to the NRT Portal user survey results we will be adding more keywords for improved searching, and adding more comprehensive notes and methodology information. We will also review the security settings, with the aim of extending / abolishing the automated logout period. These changes will be complete by 31 December 2011. We will be discussing these changes with the NRT user group on 14 December 2011.

New / updated reports and indicators

Since our last newsletter (on 14 September 2011) we have added / updated a number of reports and datasets. Please see Annex A for a full list.

Finally, we would like to reiterate the importance of your feedback. The recent user survey provided invaluable information about your satisfaction with the NRT Portal, but we want your views on how we can improve it to best meet your needs. Please get in touch or join our NRT Portal user group.

Best regards
