Key results
- As of 31 March 2024, there were 15,107 railway vehicles registered in operation for all passenger train operators. Of these, 71% were electric, 19% were diesel, 7% were bi-mode and 3% were locomotive hauled.
- The average age of rolling stock for all passenger train operators as of 31 March 2024 was 16.6 years.
- In the latest year, seven new stations opened. This brings the total number of mainline stations in Great Britain as of 31 March 2024 to 2,585.In the latest year, 141.4 kilometres of electrified track were added to the network. This was due to the continued electrification of the Core Valley Line, the TransPennine route upgrade, and the Glasgow-Barrhead line project.
