Annual statistics on Occupational health covering the mainline network in Great Britain, heritage, light rail and tramways. These statistics include data on the number of legally reportable occupational diseases, and on industry manual handling and shock or trauma incidents.

Key results

  • Reported cases of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) have increased 50% and reported cases of carpel tunnel syndrome have doubled compared with the previous year.
  • Shock or trauma incidents resulting in lost time have increased by 16% compared with the previous year. London Underground Limited and train operating companies account for the majority of all cases reported this year.
  • Shock or trauma incidents resulting in no lost time are at the highest level since April 2017 to March 2018 with 834 cases. Train operating companies account for over three quarters of all cases reported this year.
