How many people use the railway
The charts above illustrate the number of passenger journeys made in Britain by train operator, quarter by quarter. Quarters follow the financial year, for example, Q1 would start on April 1 and end on June 30.
We calculate passenger journeys based on travel from an origin station to a destination station. When a train journey includes one or more changes of train, a journey is generated for each train used.
Detailed figures on passenger journeys can be found on our passenger rail usage page.
