Passenger assistance

Periodic (4-weekly) statistics containing data on the number of bookings for assistance made by rail passengers. Whilst all of these statistics are published at a periodic level, they are updated quarterly. These data form part of ORR's core consumer data requirements from train operating companies; more information can be found at ORR core data. Information on ORR’s research to gather feedback on passengers’ experiences of accessibility and assisted travel services can be found under ORR research into accessibility.

Key results

  • There were 439,144 passenger assists requested during rail periods 1 to 4 of the latest year. This is more than double the same rail periods in the previous year (up 168.5%) and 5.1% higher than in 2019, the most recent year before the pandemic.
  • There were 138,450 passenger bookings requested during rail periods 1 to 4 of the latest year. As with passenger assists, this is more than double the same rail periods in the previous year (up 169.5%) and 11.0% higher than in 2019, the most recent year before the pandemic.
